How old do I have to be to take Segment 1? You must be at least 14 years and 8 months old by the first day of class.


What does Segment 1 consist of?

  • 12 days of classroom instruction
  • 6 hours behind the wheel
  • 4 hours of observing other students driving


What if I miss a day? We offer make-up classes.


Where are the classes held? North Branch classes are held in room 112 in Ruth Fox Middle School.


How much do the classes cost? Segment 1 is $425.

 

How do I get my Level 1 license after completing Segment 1? Schedule an appointment with the Secretary of State at www.mi.gov/sos.


What to bring with you for your appointment:

  • Segment 1 certificate.
  • Birth certificate.
  • Social security card.
  • Parent’s driver’s license.
  • One piece of mail showing the address of the student (doesn’t have to be addressed to the student).


What to expect at your appointment:

  • You will be required to pass an eye exam.
  • You will have your picture taken.
  • You will have to pay $20 for a regular license or $40 if you choose an enhanced license.
