Requirements for Segment 2
To enroll in a Michigan Segment 2 Driver Education course, students must:
- Complete Segment 1 Driver Education
- Hold their Level 1 License for at least 90 consecutive days (3 months)
- Complete at least 30 hours of supervised driving practice, including 2 hours of nighttime driving
- Bring their Level 1 License to class
- Bring a completed driving log showing the required driving hours
What Students Will Learn
Segment 2 is a 6-hour classroom course that focuses on:
- Risk awareness and crash prevention
- Defensive driving techniques
- Distracted driving
- Alcohol and drug impairment
- Road rage and aggressive driving
- Preparing for the Michigan Driving Skills Test
Important Note
Completion of Segment 2 does not make a student immediately eligible for the Michigan Driving Skills Test. Before taking the test, students must also:
- Hold a Level 1 License for at least 6 months
- Complete 50 total hours of supervised driving, including 10 hours at night
